Lawyers’ digital sovereignty

The approach

A spontaneous consultation, open to professionals and citizens alike, on the modernisation and digital sovereignty of the legal profession: its reasons, its aims, the way to take part, the fate of contributions.

Why this consultation

Lawyers are modernising fast, driven by artificial intelligence and the cloud. A large share of their tools nevertheless depends on large publishers subject to foreign laws, while their clients’ data rank among the most sensitive there are. The open letter published on 23 October 2026 puts forward two first proposals; the consultation asks the profession and citizens alike for their views on them, their needs, their proposals.

Aims

To gather concrete actions that law firms, bars and the institutions of the profession can put into practice, so that modernisation happens without giving up any of the independence of lawyers or the confidentiality of their clients. The initiative also serves access to justice: a well-equipped lawyer serves clients better, everywhere in the country.

Participants

Anyone may take part: lawyer, law firm, bar, institution, company, association, researcher or private citizen, stating in what capacity they respond. The initiative commits no institution; all of them are welcome.

Three forms of participation

  1. Signature, in a moment: first name, surname, email address, in a personal capacity or on behalf of an organisation. A view may be added.
  2. A proposal for action on the consultation page, or by email to propositions@souverainete-avocats.fr.
  3. Relay to three people who trust you: the “I have signed” card can be shared in one click.

What happens to contributions

Every contribution is read by the consultation team, which summarises them in a public report. Contributions do not appear on this site; they will be erased on 25 May 2028. Signatures appear in the public list once verified, never with their author’s email address.
